Promo code not working? 8 reasons, and what to do
"This code is not valid" doesn't always mean the code is dead. The most common reasons a code fails at checkout, and how to fix each one in a minute.
You find a code, paste it at checkout, and get "This code is not valid." Most of the time the code isn't fake. Something in your cart or account doesn't match its conditions. Here's what to check.
1. It expired
Codes have an end date, and sale codes often last only a day or two. Look for the expiry date next to the code before you try it.
2. Your cart is below the minimum
Many codes only work above a certain total, like 500 or 1,000 EGP. Check whether the minimum is counted before or after other discounts and shipping.
3. Some items are excluded
Codes often skip certain brands, categories like phones and electronics, or items sold by third-party sellers on Amazon, Noon or Jumia. Try the code with only the item you care about in the cart to see which one is blocking it.
4. It's for new customers only
"First order" codes won't work on an account that has bought before, even years ago.
5. It works only on the app, or only on the website
Some codes are app-exclusive. If it fails on the website, try the same cart in the store's app, or the other way around.
6. You already used it
Most codes are one use per account, and sometimes per phone number or payment card too.
7. It's for another country
A code for Noon UAE or Amazon.sa won't work on the Egyptian store. Make sure the code is for the site you're on.
8. A small typing mistake
An extra space before or after the code is enough to break it, especially when you copy and paste. Also check letters that look alike, like O and 0.
Still not working?
- Remove any other code first. Most stores allow only one per order.
- Check if the sale price already includes the discount. Some codes don't stack with items already on offer.
- Try a different code for the same store instead of retrying the same one.
